Feeling and thought in collective action on social issues: Toward a systems perspective

چکیده
Theories of action have tended to view it—and its basis in thought and feeling—as static, discrete, mechanistic, decontextualized. Moreover, studies be fragmented academic silos. The consequences these problems include a lack cumulative contextualized theory-building, an inability recognize emergent, dynamic, non-linear causality, especially across levels analysis. We argue that such could partly alleviated with increased engagement meta-theoretical perspective has long been advocated for psychology—the systems approach. In this view, thought, feeling, motivation, action, context can viewed as co-evolving, inextricably linked, systems. illustrate the need benefit approach domain collective on social issues. conclude perspectives allow more contextualized, generalizable, conceptually rich, applied directions research domain.
